Making an Impact in the World
I want to encourage you that God has prepared good things for your future. At times, I am tempted to believe that I am too old for the lessons I’ve learned in life to have much meaning or impact for the kingdom of God. I sometimes think that if I could find someone younger to teach my wisdom to, they would be able to have an impact. But God doesn’t want my hope to be in someone else’s future. God wants my hope to be in Him and the future He has for me. When you live each moment in the purposeful direction of the Kingdom, you will have an impact on the world.
You are never too old, too young, or too anything for God.
The enemy wants you to believe that God is able to use anyone other than you because you have too many faults. But God has a purpose and future for every one of His children. God can use you because He is God, not because you are you. It is easy to get sucked into the false belief that your ability to do ministry for the kingdom of God is about you, and you aren’t good enough for God’s ministry. The second part of that statement is in fact true. The only One who is good enough to do the quality control standard or ministry in the kingdom of God is God. It is the first half of the statement that is false and leads to a static life of fruitlessness. Your ability to do ministry for the kingdom of God does not come from your own strength, which is why it is impossible to do anything without God.
“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NASB)
Serving God is not something you do on your own for extra credit. Serving God is something He does in you as a necessary part of sanctification and discipleship.
Growing in your faith is not an option — it is part of the package. The pathway that Jesus calls you to and demonstrated for us (Luke 2:52; Matthew 20:28) is the path of service. Serving God and serving others is what God commands us to do. If God thought He was able to use you when He called you, you should probably trust His decision-making abilities above your own.
