Finding Hope in Uncertainty

Is your journey filled with uncertain darkness as you walk into the future? God will be your guide through the uncertainty that lies ahead.

If you are like me, you probably wish you knew the future or at least could take a glimpse into the future to know how best to react in a current situation. However, when you put so much faith in your decisions today to create your destiny tomorrow, you are trusting your ability to make decisions more than you are trusting God. God created the world in a way that needs you to make decisions, but at the same time, He determines the outcomes.

God doesn’t show us the future because then we would trust our own abilities to get us there.

Do you trust God more than the circumstances and outcomes of your life? If I completely knew the destinations in my life, I would have chosen the easiest path to get to those points. However, it is in the darkest moments that you have to trust God the most. If I didn’t have the struggles and hardships in my life, I wouldn’t have the same trusting relationship with God that has developed through the uncertainties of life.

Life will often put you in unexpected circumstances, so you need to build a secure relationship with the only One who transcends the circumstances of life. If you are in a season of light troubles and temptations, you should spend time developing your relationship with God because you will need Him at some point in your journey. If you’re in a time of more intense struggles and hardships, you should lean into your relationship with Jesus since He is the only One who knows what life will look like on the other side of your storm. You can always trust the One who is certain, even in the uncertainties of life.

“God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5b (NJKV)

So why do you sometimes feel like your entire life is darkness? You know that God doesn’t move away from you, nor have you done anything to move away from God. It just feels like He isn’t there. In my experience of walking through valleys of darkness, I have found that the answers don’t come right when I want them to come. In the midst of the darkness and the trials, my hope is that the dark tunnel will come to an end so I can glimpse the light that I know is just ahead. As I mature in my walk of faith, I find myself in a more steady place in life. It’s not that I don’t have emotional highs when I learn new things about God or emotional lows when He doesn’t show up in the way I want Him to — because I do. It is that I develop patience in life as my faith gets tested and when it triumphs.

So what should you do in the darkness? Continue to walk with the Light.

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.” 1 John 1:7a (NKJV)

Love cannot be devoid of fellowship. So to love God and love your neighbor, you have to be in fellowship with both God and neighbor. Remember, God wants to give you hope and a future, but He also wants to make sure you receive it from Him and not from your own selfish ambitions.
