Learning and Leading
We have been given the responsibility to develop the resources God has given us. Whether it is the land we live on, the tools of our trade or our own character. God put mankind in the Garden to tend it and help it grow (Genesis 2:15). We have a natural desire to improve the world we live in, both our immediate environment and the world as a whole. However, when we look at the problems of the whole world, we often get overwhelmed because God put mankind in a garden, with a limited part of the world to tend. God knows that we need a limited scope and boundary of an area to be concerned about.
You can't learn to be tall.
While we can learn and grow in many areas of life, there are some areas that we simply cannot develop. “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (Matthew 6:27). We are not God, and though we may live in a world of unlimited opportunities to see God in new ways, we have limited control over the world we live in. Sometimes, we have to simply do our best and recognize that there are things we cannot change, but that doesn’t have to change our outlook on life or our determination to do what we can.
The fastest way to lift your spirit is to lift someone else's
One of the greatest parts of our environment is the people who are also in our environment. The way we change the world is by changing the people in the world. We cannot control a volcano, we cannot control the rain, we can only serve God and love our neighbor. When we do that, we find out that we are fulfilling our God-given purpose and drive. We improve the world around us best by improving the lives of other people. Our life and attitude will be lifted up by lifting up someone else. Contentment is a byproduct of living out our calling and an integral part of each of our callings is to serve one another.
