Uncertain Darkness 3
God is the ultimate creative mastermind He never runs out of new ways to let us experience Him. A new experience in our relationship with God may be new to us, but it is not new to God. We can be uncomfortable with new things because we haven’t experienced them before and we don’t know how they will turn out. But each new experience causes us to have less hope in ourselves and more focus on God because He is the only Thing that doesn’t change in life.
When we focus on doing life with God, we can learn how to have comfort even when life is uncomfortable.
God doesn’t want us to be uncomfortable; rather, He wants us to find our comfort in Him not in life. The lack of comfort we experience in life should drive us to search for true comfort, which is only found in God. Sometimes we don’t like having uncertainties in our future and our plans. We want to create a path for life and continue merrily along our way, but God doesn’t want us to follow our own path but His path. When God interrupts our path, we can either choose to resent Him and attempt to forge along our own way or pause to listen and follow Him. When we experience discomfort and uncertainty in our lives, we should pause to make sure we are seeking to find our comfort in God and are following Him.
In life, you will follow the voices you choose to listen to. Tune your ears to The Shepherd’s voice.
We weren’t designed to do life alone and follow our own way. We were built for relationships - both with God and others. We need to spend more time listening to His voice and the voice of other sheep that are following the Shepherd than our own voice. That may mean entering into stillness at times as we listen for the still small voice that speaks through our meditation on scripture. Eventually, we will become more like who we listen to and spend time with.
God will always remain true to His promise to never leave us or forsake us. No matter how much we feel or don’t feel His presence, He is there right beside us. “be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger” (James 1:19). We can silence the anger welling up inside us when our voice isn’t being heard or accepted. We can become quick to listen and slow to speak as we wait for God to speak. It takes a lot of time and practice to quiet our soul in our uncertain and uncomfortable world, but it is worth building the habit
