The Truth
All truth is God’s truth. Truth is not dependent on us fully understanding it. We usually experience truths before we understand them. We experience dropping things before we learn about the law of gravity. By being alive, we experience God’s goodness even before we understand Him.
It is easier to believe a lie you’ve heard a thousand times than to believe a fact that you haven’t heard before.
To know the truth, we have to decide to listen to the truth. There are many voices we can listen to. The more we listen to the truth, the more the truth will be relevant to us. The more we fill our minds with triviality, the more we will have a hard time understanding the truth. We believe what we hear over and over again before we believe the truth because it is easier and more comfortable.
The truth will set you free.
Knowing the truth allows us to live by the truth, but it takes work. The truth can only set us free if we know what it is. If we don't know calculus, we will not pass the calculus test. The truth of x + y = z doesn't change, but the truth can only affect us if we know it. Truth always has a great potential to positively influence our lives but we have to know it to use it.
Hurt people hurt people.
No matter how well we know someone, there are elements of their experiences that we don’t know. We may know that our friend broke their arm, but we don’t know all the emotional experiences surrounding that event. The truth is that hurts and pains go deeper than we tend to think - they tattoo our soul. Each hurt we experience gives us a new opportunity to create change. We get to choose how we use the hurts in our lives. To use our life experiences, we have to be willing to dive into them and fully process our own hurt that we more fully understand before we can enter into the many unknowns of someone else's hurt.
