The Mindset of Salvation
The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak. According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render repayment. So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives. And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the Lord. “And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore.”
Isaiah 59:15b-21
The helmet of salvation protects your head.
Your head is synonymous for your mind. Your mind comprises what you know, what you think about, and how you think about those things. The helmet of salvation isn’t just about protecting your head, it’s about protecting and changing your mind. When you put on the armor of God, a mindset of salvation transforms the way you think about the world. Your mind needs to be transformed through the washing of the Word to see the world in the terms of salvation. You need to adopt a salvation worldview and see the world as the domain where God is working to make His will done as it is in Heaven. God’s salvation is powerful and you should see the world in terms of God’s power to raise up rather than sin’s power to bring down. God is just, so He interceded for our unrighteousness and brought us salvation as He put on the breastplate of righteousness, helmet of salvation, garments of vengeance and a cloak of zeal by His atoning work on the cross.
Knowledge will not acquire you, you must acquire it.
Knowledge isn’t about having gathered a lot of facts, it's about developing your mind to have a posture of constantly acquiring knowledge. As you turn from transgression, you renew God’s covenant with you as His Spirit that is within you puts words into your mouth. Your way of thinking becomes focused on how God can receive more glory. As you focus on giving God glory, you will train your offspring to do so as well, and the praises of the Lord will multiply as more mouths will pour forth words of praise. However, with all that is going on in the world around you, acquiring this mindset will not come naturally. It takes intentionality and a focus of your will to decide to have a salvation mindset in an unsaved world.
All things good to know are difficult to learn.
Knowledge and learning do not come without effort; you must intentionally pursue knowledge in order to find it.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable. Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
Proverbs 25:2-5
It is worth the effort to separate knowledge from foolishness and to acquire knowledge. It is worth the effort to put on the helmet of salvation as a mindset of godliness instead of letting your mind drift to a sin centered focus. You have to establish a salvation mindset; you have to engage in the process of the transforming of your mind.
