Focus Your Mind, Focus Your Worship

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4

Theology should lead you to worship.

You can’t compartmentalize knowing God and worshiping God; studying the attributes of God should lead you to worship. Knowing God is essential to worshiping God for without knowing God, “... it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Knowing God is only the first step in the process, diligently seeking Him is the connected follow through of knowing Him. You won’t be able to diligently seek Him without at the same time getting to know Him better. As you seek the things which are above, your mind will grow in the knowledge of Christ. And as you set your mind on things above, you will become more focused on seeking and worshiping God.

Set your mind on God and what He has done.

What you set your mind on becomes what you will worship. As you focus on setting your mind on God in every situation, you will more naturally seek to worship God. ““Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come! You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (Revelation 4:8-11).When your mind is focused on what God has done—creating everything and continually causing everything to exist—you will be led into worshiping God as you dwell on how worthy He is of worship. The Lord God is holy, and worthy of all praise; He always was, and He always will be. The more you set your mind on God and what He has done, the more you will give Him the worship He deserves.

Get your mind off the enemy and what you have done.

Setting your mind on what you have done will lead you away from God. Focusing on yourself will inevitably lead to the connected follow through of worshiping self. If your theology is centered on what Satan and man has done, you will begin to worship those things. But if your mind is set on Christ, in the heavenly places, you will worship Him. You can and will know both about what Satan has done and what God has done, but which one you tend to focus on will determine which one you are drawn to worship.
