Desired Action

“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; Therefore you are My witnesses,” Says the Lord, “that I am God. Indeed before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”

Isaiah 43:10-13

Without desire nothing happens.

You have to want to grow. You have to want to engage in a relationship with God. God has chosen you to be His servant and His witness. You have to want to be engaged in ministry and He will equip you for the ministry He has for you.

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, and said to you, “You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:9-10

God wants you to be bold and courageous, like Joshua, David and Stephen. God is behind you to strengthen you when you step out to serve Him.

Don’t spend half your time wishing for things you could have if you didn’t spend half your time wishing.

Many of the things we wish for in life are things we think will save us—whether it is from hunger, health or unhappiness. But besides God there is no savior and He has proclaimed that no one can steal from His hand. You can have fullness, flourishment and freedom. if you spend your time pursuing the right things, all the other things will be added to you. The question is: are you spending your time wishing for the right things?

Give us our daily bread.

You desire physical and spiritual food. Those desires are good, but you also have to act on those desires to get them satisfied. When Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread, he was tempting Jesus to make work easy. After the fall, man had to till the ground to produce wheat to make bread. So in a way men are turning rocks into bread when they go to work to provide. Turning rocks into bread could be vernacular for doing work in a farming cultural context. During Jesus' temptation in the wilderness, Satan was asking Jesus to end His fast early by circumventing a primary curse of the fall. When you thank God for your daily bread, you are thanking Him for His provisions that mediate the detriments of the fall. But without desiring bread and letting that desire spur you into action, the ground remains stony and the basic ingredients for food remain dormant.
