Wedding Garments

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. … For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

2 Cor 5:2-4, 14-18

You will be clothed in something.

You will either be clothed in sin according to the flesh or you will be clothed in righteousness. Your desire isn’t to be unclothed, but to be fully clothed. The garments of sin hang on a body like torn, raggedy old clothes, exposing the shame of your nakedness. The law exposes the lack of covering that your old clothes provide like a mirror, but knowing you lack proper covering doesn’t help your situation. You can try to move your old garments around to try to cover the important parts, but your shame will still be exposed. You groan not to simply be unclothed from your rags of sin, but to be fully clothed in righteousness.

For anyone to inherit something, the owner has to die.

For you to attend the God’s wedding banquet (c.f. Matthew 22:1-14), you need the proper wedding garments. You cannot buy the proper wedding garments; the only proper garments belongs to Jesus. The only way for you to receive the garments is for you to be listed as His heir and for Him to die. When Jesus died, He took off your rags of sin and gave you the wedding garments. However, the garments don't do you any good if you have them but don't put them on. The resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit are necessary to help you get into your wedding garments. The clothes create an aroma that seeps into the body (c.f. Genesis 27:15). Likewise, the garments of righteousness will seep into your spirit and change who you are on the inside.

God knows the new name He will give you and He calls you by that name.

The new name that God will give you unites His name (reputation) with your name in a unique way. The wedding garments become a part of you so that the person who you are under the wedding garments of righteousness changes. Your name (reputation) changes as you take on His wedding garments of righteousness. A good name is better than riches (Proverbs 22:1). As good as a good name is, God exchanges whatever name you have developed for a new name that He gives you as a part of His good name. Jesus died to give you God’s wedding garments of righteousness that bear His holy name (reputation). You will both be unclothed from the raggedy garments of sin and fully clothed in the wedding garments of righteousness. Wear your wedding garments every day and let them change you as you receive a new reputation.
