The Path
“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.” (Psalm 25:4).
There are many paths in life, we will travel down only one of those paths as the passage of time pushes us forward. If we know that we are going to travel down a path, the important question to ask is what path is the right one. We can follow the path we think looks good, or we can take the path that God has for us. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 16:25). We do not know where each path leads, we can only see the condition of the path right in front of us. We have to listen to God because He knows where each path leads and what conditions we will face along the way.
Don't let the color of the grass distract you from the vision of God.
Our objective in life is to find God’s path and vision for our lives and then follow that vision with all our resources. God has given us everything we need to be successful along our journey, but He won’t force us to go down His path. He goes with us and will even coax us to follow Him, but we have to take the steps. Each step we take either closer to Him or further from Him. “With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!” (Psalm 119:10). The straight and narrow path requires us to focus our heart on God so we don’t misstep along the tightrope. The wide path allows us to stumble carelessly but it doesn’t lead to the same destination as the narrow path. God continually calls us to follow His path and adopt His vision for our lives.
Follow where God is leading whether or not the grass is green.
The condition of the path doesn’t matter as much as the direction of the path. No matter how hard the path is ahead, if it leads us to where God is calling us to go, it is worth the effort to travel down the path. A pleasant path that leads the wrong direction is less than pointless to take, it is destructive. Which brings us to the first rule of path finding: Before we go down a path, we need to make sure it is the right one.
