I Am A Christian

We are either a Christian or we are not. We do not get to be part of a Christian.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:17-18

The greatest commandment is not become a better Christian.

“The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Mark 12:29-31). Every Christian must love God and love his neighbor. There is no other standard for Christian life. Love is not a feeling; it is a decision. We have either said yes to God, which means saying yes to serving others or we haven't.

You can't follow Jesus half way.

If we only pay half of our mortgage payments, the bank will not be happy with us. Solomon illustrated this by offering a grieving mother half of someone else's son (1 Kings 3). Trying to follow Jesus half way is as lifeless as having half of a baby. Either Jesus is alive and active in our life or He is not.

If Jesus isn't lord of all, He's not lord at all.

We cannot obey Jesus only when we want to. When we decide to be in charge of when we obey, we put ourselves on a higher pedestal than God. Obeying God requires us to surrender our sense and understanding of right and wrong to listen to His understanding. As we practice obedience, we will mold our understanding of good and evil to God’s standards and obedience becomes more natural.
