Humbly Tell about Jesus
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11
God lifts up the way of humility.
In Roman culture there was a prescribed process for political development in the republic. Once an individual successfully held a lower office successfully, he was promoted to the next level as he climbed the proverbial ladder of political influence. This process was called the cursus honorum or the way of honor. Roman politics also had a cursus pudorum or a way of shame, where an individual was progressively lowered from positions of honor. Although Jesus was already at the top, being equal with God (6), He chose the cursus pudorum even to the humiliation of death on a cross. As a result of taking the way of humility, Jesus has been given the name that is above every name. As we seek to live like Jesus lived, we are compelled to walk the way of humility, giving up the pursuit of glory and honor in this life to give glory to God now and enable us to continually give glory to God throughout eternity. Because God exalts the way of humility, it leads to a far greater prestige than the way of honor could ever yield. Proverbs 15:33 says, “before honor is humility.” When we go through the process of humbling ourselves, God is then able to honor us and give us a measure of His glory that we can return to Him.
When Jesus invites His followers to share in His life He does so by inviting them into His death.
Jesus said, “whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25). At its foundation, everything in our life comes from God. The life that we think belongs to us belongs to the God who created it. When we draw a picture, we create something that belongs to us. When we draw a picture of ourselves it belongs to us twice: first, because we created it and second because it is a picture of us. God created everything in the world so it all belongs to Him, and He created mankind in His image so we belong to Him twice. Any pride of life that we could have should drive us to the praise and honor of Him who we belong to. When we share in the shame associated with His death, we prepare ourselves to share in the glory of His life
Your job is to give the Holy Spirit opportunities to work.
Humanity was created to creatively cultivate the garden into a growing greenhouse, giving glory to God. As we create new things, we give the Holy Spirit new opportunities to work in the world. We provide opportunities for God to work through our creativity and join Him in His creative works. The greatest creative work we can participate in is sharing a living engagement in the death and resurrection of Jesus in a unique way that corresponds to our life. We have to do this in humility because the greatest story we can tell with our life is His story. Many times, the best way we can tell about Jesus is by planting the seeds of His story and getting out of the way so the Holy Spirit can do His work.
