How to Live a Faith-Filled Life
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5 (NKJV)
Faith is necessary to overcoming anything in life. The book of Hebrews tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) Without faith it is impossible to overcome anything because we have to first believe that God is good, and that He is capable of carrying us through the things in our life. When our confidence is in our faith, not our fortune, we can believe in God and His goodness despite the things in our life.
What is faith? Well, it’s more than a far-fetched belief in something untested.
Faith is believing and trusting in something we have evidence for.
That’s why Hebrews also tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) Faith is evidence of what we know to be true. That is why faith has to have works. Faith has its foundation in knowledge and fact and when a reasonable amount of facts determine that a certain thing is true, we will begin to change the way we live in accordance to that faith.
Romans says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
Our faith comes from knowing what the Bible says about God.
Once we choose to believe God and we join to that belief the good works of a changed life, we develop faith.
James 2 tells us, “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? ...Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:14, 17 (NKJV) If we do not show evidence of our faith by our works in the way we live our life, then it is evident that we do not have faith.
Our works show the evidence of what we believe.
As we gain more knowledge of God and increase in good works, we will continue to develop our faith further.
My friend, without faith, it is impossible to overcome anything in this life. We have to first believe that God is good, and then, that He is capable of carrying us through anything that comes our way.
