God’s Missions
“When Joshua had grown old, the Lord said to him, ‘You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.’” Joshua 13:1
Your mission may not end with you.
Joshua had the mission of bringing the people of Israel into the Promised Land and establishing a physical location for God’s people, yet his mission went beyond Joshua’s lifetime. God gave David the mission to complete Joshua’s and bring Israel fully into the land and enter into a time of peace. As a part of David’s mission, he was iven the vision of building the Temple for God to dwell with His people. Yet this part of his mission was not finished in David’s lifetime (1 Chronicles 17:1-15, 28:2-7). The missions God calls us to may not end with us, or at least they are not missions that we are to do alone. Since all of life’s missions are God’s and not ours, we shouldn’t assume that any of God’s missions end with us. As we engage in the missions God has for us, we are to bring other people along the missions with us.
When you have done your best; you should await the result in peace.
The main missions of life are God’s missions. We have the privilege of joining God on His missions but we do not assume full authority of the mission. Since the mission belongs to the Lord, we can let him take care of the results and move along to the other missions He has for us. The more missions we engage in, the more opportunities we have in engaging in missions that will outlast us. Part of our mission may be to start missions just so others can get involved. The missions are not about us, but about giving God glory, so it takes nothing away from us to share our missions with others.
The common question, how do I serve God with everything I have forgets that everything you have is God's.
As great as we may think we are, We are only dust (Genesis 3:19). We were born naked and we will die naked (Job 1:21). “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:6-8). Our food, clothes and everything else we have comes from God. We have the privilege of using what God gives us for a while. We also have the responsibility of managing those things that are given to us so we can better fulfill the missions God provides for us to be involved in. God’s missions are all around us, but we have to be willing to go on those missions. And many of those missions will only become available to us if we are equipped and prepared to go on them by managing the resources we have been given.
