Finding Comfort in God
God is the ultimate creative mastermind. He never runs out of new ways to let you experience Him. A new experience in your relationship with God may be new to you, but it is not new to God. I can be uncomfortable with new things because I haven’t experienced them before and I don’t know how they will turn out. But each new experience causes me to have less hope in myself and more focus on God because He is the only One that doesn’t change in life.
When we focus on doing life with God, we can learn how to have comfort even when life is uncomfortable.
It’s not that God wants you to be uncomfortable; it’s that He wants you to find your comfort in Him, not in your life. The lack of comfort you experience in life can drive you to search for true comfort, which is only found in God. Sometimes I don’t like having uncertainties in my future and my plans. I want to create a path for life and continue merrily along my way. But God doesn’t want me to follow my own path; instead, He wants me to follow His path. When God interrupts my path, I can choose to resent Him and attempt to forge along my own way or I can pause to listen and follow Him. When you experience discomfort and uncertainty in your life, pause to make sure you are seeking to find your comfort in God and are following Him.
In life, you will follow the voices you choose to listen to. Tune your ears to the Shepherd’s voice.
You weren’t designed to do life alone and follow your own way. You were built for a relationship with God and others. Spend more time listening to His voice and the voice of other sheep that are following the Shepherd. That may mean entering into stillness at times as you listen for the still small voice that speaks through your meditation on Scripture. Eventually, you will become more like who you listen to and spend time with.
God will always remain true to His promise to never leave you or forsake you. No matter how much you feel or don’t feel His presence, He is there right beside you.
