Direction
We keep moving forward in life in one direction or another. We do not get to decide whether or not we will move forward, all we get to decide is what direction we are going. When we don’t decide what direction we are going, we become like “children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14). If we don't decide what direction we are going in life, we will never get anywhere.
Keep walking towards the light and the shadows will stay behind you.
Walking towards what God has for us will help keep our focus away from everything that tries to distract us from moving in that direction. The shadowy elements of life will remain in our rearview mirror as we keep our focus on moving forward. When we set our direction towards the light, we can see clearly to put all the shadows of life in perspective with the light.
Do you see obstacles or opportunities?
There will always be objects in our path. But we choose how we will see those objects. We can see those objects as stumbling blocks that have the potential make us fall, or we can see those objects as stepping stones along our way. We can allow distractions to take our focus off of our direction, or we can use the distraction to heighten our focus on our direction and help us keep our attention on the path.
If you're too big to do the little things, you will be too small to do the big things.
When we begin our journey towards a destination, we will encounter small obstacles as we set the direction of our path. Gradually, we will encounter larger and larger obstacles as we develop the direction of our path. We won’t be able to climb over the big obstacles in our path if we don’t develop our muscles by climbing over the little obstacles. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God equips us to handle larger temptations through our practiced obedience amidst smaller temptations. When we remain focused on the direction of our path, God helps us develop the strength to finish our journey.
